WestNet: Configuring Netscape Mail Packages

Netscape Navigator 2.0 - 3.0

To configure the mail program in Netscape Navigator (versions 2.02, 3.0, 3.01):
  1. In Netscape, drop down the Options menu
  2. Choose Mail and News Preferences
  3. Click on the Servers tab, and enter the following:
    Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.westnet.com
    Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.westnet.com
    POP3 Username: your_westnet_userid
    News (NNTP) Server: news.westnet.com
  4. Click on the Identity tab, and fill out the pertinent information
  5. Click OK
To save your password:
  1. Click on Options, then Mail and News Preferences
  2. Choose the Organization tab
  3. Check "Remember Mail Password"
  4. Click OK
If you have an extra mailbox with your account, Mail and News Preferences must be changed to retrieve your mail:
  1. Change Servers -> POP3 Userid to the new userid
  2. Change the Identity fields to match the current name, address, etc.

Netscape Communicator 4.0 - 4.08

To configure Messenger Mailbox for a single user:
  1. Drop down the Edit menu, and choose Preferences
  2. Under Category, double-click on Mail & Groups
  3. Click on Mail Server
  4. Enter the following:
    Mail server user name: your_westnet_userid
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.westnet.com
    Incoming mail server: pop.westnet.com
  5. Click on Identity and enter the pertinent information
  6. Click on OK
To configure Messenger Mailbox for multiple users in Win95, follow the above instructions for one e-mail address, then:
  1. Click on Start -> Programs -> Netscape Communicator -> Utilities
  2. Choose User Profile Manager
  3. Click New, then click Next
  4. Enter the full name for the e-mail account, and the e-mail address, then click Next
  5. Enter the profile name (should be similar to real name or address), then click Next
  6. Enter the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.westnet.com
  7. Click Next
  8. Enter the Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.westnet.com
  9. Click Next
  10. Enter the News (NNTP) Server: news.westnet.com
  11. Click Finish
When Netscape Communicator is started, it will ask for what mail profile to choose.

Netscape Communicator 4.5

To configure the mail program in Netscape Communicator 4.5:
  1. Drop down the Edit menu, and choose Preferences
  2. Under Category, open the Mail & Newgroups folder
  3. Click on Identity and enter the pertinent information
  4. Click on Mail Servers
  5. Click ADD, and enter the following:
    Server Name: pop.westnet.com
    Server Type: POP3 Server
    User Name: your_westnet_userid
    Check "Remember Password" if you so wish
    Do not check "Check for mail every 10 minutes"
  6. Enter in Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.westnet.com
  7. Click on Newsgroup Servers, and click ADD
  8. Enter Server: news.westnet.com and click OK
  9. Click on OK
