Configuring Mozilla Mail and
Importing Settings
Quick Reference
The Mozilla mail client includes an option to import settings from
various mail clients (Eudora, Outlook, Netscape, etc). The following
instructions will assist you in successfully migrating mail clients. If
you have further questions,
please contact the WestNet
staff.
Configuring Email for Mozilla 7.x (Thunderbird
0.x)
- Open the Mozilla mail client
- Drop down the Edit menu,
and choose Mail and Newsgroup Account
Settings
- Click Add Account
- Circle Email Accounts
and then click Next
- For Your
Name Enter the name you wish to appear on your e-mails.
- For Email Address Enter your
Westnet email address (example@westnet.com)
- Circle POP3 for the Server Type
and enter the following information:
- For Incoming Mail Server: pop.westnet.com
- For Incoming User Name: enter
your westnet username (the part before @westnet.com)
- For Account Name: enter any
name you would like to use to refer to this account.
- Click Next
- Verify that the account settings are correct, and then click Finish
Importing Mail Settings into Mozilla 7.x
(Thunderbird
0.x)
- Launch the Mozilla mail client
- Drop down the Tools menu, and choose Import.
- Select the setting that you wish to import (Address Book,
Mail, Settings)
- Click on Next
- Select the client from which you wish to import settings from (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora)
- Click Next
- Click Finish
Resolving problems sending e-mail with Mozilla 7.x (Thunderbird
0.x)
If you receive a "An error occured when sending mail" or
"Sending of Message Failed" when trying to send e-mail after following
one of the above procedures, this alternate setup may be more compatible:
- Open the Mozilla mail client
- Drop down the Tools menu,
and choose Account
Settings
- Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) on the left hand side to pull
up that part of the configuration
- For Server Name enter mail.westnet.com
- For Port
Enter 587
- Check the box next to Use name and password
- For User Name: enter
your westnet username (the part before @westnet.com)
- For Use Secure Connection

- Verify that the account settings are correct, and then click OK
